Antoinette Miles named Interim State Director for New Jersey Working Families Party
Antoinette Miles has been named Interim State Director for the New Jersey Working Families Party.
Miles, the first Black woman to lead the organization, succeeds Sue Altman, who is taking a leave of absence from Working Families.
“I am honored to take the helm of one of New Jersey’s premier progressive advocacy organizations at a critical moment for our state and our nation,” Miles said. “At a time when MAGA Republicans are attacking the very fabric of democracy both in Trenton and Washington, we’re going to continue aggressively fighting against corporate special interests and for policies that empower working families.”
Miles previously served as Working Families’ Political Director, where she led the organization’s election and advocacy work to fight for a more progressive future for New Jersey. Before joining Working Families last year, she served in the district office of U.S. Rep. Andy Kim.
“We are pleased to announce Antoinette Miles as Interim State Director for the New Jersey Working Families Party,” said Board Member and CWA NJ State Director Fran Ehret. “We have full confidence that WFP will only grow its political relevance and influence under Antoinette’s leadership as we continue strong advocacy on behalf of labor, low-income families and democratic values.”
Miles takes the helm of the organization as it moves into critical state legislative elections and as talk has already begun about taking back control of the U.S. House of Representatives from MAGA extremists next year.
As in years past, WFP will be guided in its electoral work by an endorsement process run by its state board.
“Our progressive coalition has notched important victories in recent years, from implementing a millionaire’s tax to protections for temporary workers, and hiring transparency for major companies in Camden,” Miles said. “I look forward to getting to work and leading with a transformative vision for our future where all of our communities thrive.”
