Armato Measure to Exempt Certain Veterans from Driver’s License Fees Approved by Assembly Panel

Bill Also Exempts Motorcycle License and Photo Fees

(TRENTON) – Certain honorably discharged veterans who have a disability connected to their time in the military would be exempt from fees for a basic driver’s license, motorcycle license or endorsements, and digitized pictures under legislation approved by the Assembly State and Local Government Committee on Monday.

The measure (A-652), sponsored by Assemblyman John Armato (D-Atlantic), would apply to veterans with disabilities classified by U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as 60 percent or greater.

Armato released the following statement:

“New Jersey is home to over 400,000 veterans. There is always something more we can do to give back to these heroes who have sacrificed so much to preserve our freedom. Disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients are currently exempt from municipal parking meter fees for up to 24 hours. An exemption from driver’s license and motorcycle license fees and associated photo charges is another benefit our veterans deserve. This little change will go a long way.”
