ASBURY PARK RIDERS SURPASS 100,000 TRIPS ON SUPERPEDESTRIAN’S LINK E-SCOOTERS SINCE LAUNCH

Strong ridership even in winter months, orderly parking and riding, and collaboration with local businesses make Asbury Park a model for e-scooters done right

ASBURY PARK, NJ – Since launching its fleet of scooters back in May of 2021, riders in Asbury Park have taken more than 100,000 trips on Superpedestrian’s LINK e-scooters. The city’s busiest day came on September 18 during the Sea.Hear.Now Festival, when LINK e-scooters logged over 2,500 rides. Even during cold winter months, residents are often taking more than 100 daily rides.

Superpedestrian’s e-scooters have proven immensely popular, with fears about chaos and clutter never coming to fruition. Scooter parking has been tidy and orderly, while residents and visitors are making frequent scooter trips that boost local business. The city has shared that community feedback has been ultimately positive, and scooters have even helped ease the parking situation downtown, as people use scooters to ‘park and ride’ from other neighborhoods.

“We see Asbury Park as a model for the rest of New Jersey. With the right rules and the right technology, we’re all working together to show how to do scooters right for residents and local businesses,” said Zach Williams, Policy Manager at Superpedestrian.

Why Superpedestrian Scooters Are Working Well in Asbury Park:

Tidy parking and strict curb management ensure e-scooter stay where they belong
Safety trainings with local community organizations, combined with safe scooter design, has made for safer riding
As the city’s exclusive provider, Superpedestrian has made deep investments in its local team, and can more effectively interface with the city, businesses and residents to make adjustments, move scooters and respond to complaints

Superpedestrian was spun out of MIT in 2013 with the mission to develop the world’s smartest and safest light electric vehicle fleets. In 2020, Superpedestrian debuted the LINK Scooter, heralded as “The Volvo of e-Scooters” for its patented Vehicle Intelligence platform that actively prevents costly mechanical and electrical hazards that beset other e-scooter operators. Superpedestrian has become a world-leader in transportation robotics and human-scale mobility, holding over 40 patents in autonomous failure protection for vehicles, automated maintenance software, fleet optimization, and vehicle context awareness.

How to Ride Superpedestrian’s LINK E-scooters:

To ride a scooter, simply download the LINK mobile app from your iOS or Android app store, use the app to find a scooter, and scan its QR code to get started. Rides cost $1 to unlock the scooter, plus 39 cents per minute. Superpedestrian also has accommodations for riders without smartphones or credit cards.
