Asm. Scharfenberger: Dr. Fauci Says We Can Continue to Reopen, So Let’s Start Now!

Middletown, N.J. – Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger (R-Monmouth) strongly agrees with Dr. Anthony Fauci when he said during an interview with Governor Phil Murphy yesterday that New Jersey can and should continue to reopen:

“It was great to hear from Dr. Fauci and I couldn’t agree more, New Jersey should continue to reopen as soon as possible so let’s start now,” Scharfenberger commented. “In fact, I am even more confident that we should begin to ease restrictions immediately so businesses can get back to operating safely, at full strength.”

The confidence boost from Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and presidential advisor, comes at a time when New Jersey’s small business owners need to resurrect their businesses in the wake of economic downturn due to COVID-19 state-imposed lockdowns.

“It is perfect timing in actuality, since Trenton has chosen to fund pet projects in a pork filled budget instead of offering more financial assistance to residents and local businesses. They should have the opportunity to get back to on their feet,” said Scharfenberger. “That goes for restaurants, gyms, churches, and any other entity that has had restrictions placed on them. Reasonable precautions can still be implemented, but it’s time to let the journey down the long road of New Jersey’s economic recovery begin in earnest.”

Coupled with statements made by Dr. Fauci previously, Assemblyman Scharfenberger also notes that restrictions on voting should have been lifted as well, allowing residents to vote at polling locations instead of predominantly by mail for this November’s General Election. An activity that Dr. Fauci himself has said is safe to occur as long as social distancing procedures are taken:

“There is no reason at all why citizens should not have voted in-person, especially considering all of the preventive measures that could have been implemented to safeguard residents, but yet that decision was solely made by one person,” Scharfenberger says. “If the Governor is sincere in saying that he listens to the experts, then he need look no further than the advice from Dr. Fauci, whom he has applauded time after time.”
