Assembly Committee to Hold Hearing on Veteran Property Tax Deduction Legislation

(NEWARK) – The Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee will hold a public hearing regarding legislation intended to assist New Jersey veterans with their property taxes.

The hearing will be led by Chairwoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex) on a resolution (ACR-57) she and fellow Assembly Democrats Daniel Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex), Pamela Lampitt (D-Camden, Burlington) and Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer, Middlesex) have sponsored.

The resolution proposes an amendment to the state constitution that would extend the existing $250 property tax deduction for veterans who served in a time of war or emergency to honorably discharged veterans who did not serve during a time of war or emergency.

If approved, the amendment would be submitted to the public for a vote during the next election.

Members of the public are invited to attend, and may submit comments or request to testify during the hearing.

The hearing will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 6 in Committee Room 13 on the fourth floor of the State House in Trenton, NJ.
