Assembly Hearings Concerning COVID-19’s Impact on Census Count & Insurance Industry; Special Committee on Natural Resources to Convene Thursday

(TRENTON)- Three Assembly committees will meet on Thursday, July 23 to continue the discussion on the impact of COVID-19 on New Jersey and to discuss water infrastructure projects as an economic development tool for pandemic recovery efforts.

Video and audio live stream of the committee is available: https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/media/live_audio.asp?SESSION=2020.

Full agendas can also be found here.

Assembly Special Committee on Infrastructure and Natural Resources will meet at 1:00 pm. The committee will receive testimony concerning ways in which water infrastructure projects can serve as a tool to support the State’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Assembly Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee will convene at 10:00 AM. The committee will take testimony from invited guests on the 2020 census, the timeline and status of the collection of census data in New Jersey, the importance of the census for the distribution of federal funds, and how COVID-19 has impacted the intake of information thus far.

The Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee will meet at 3:00 PM. The panel will take testimony concerning the state of the insurance industry.  Since this pandemic began in March of 2020, the health and automobile insurance markets have undergone many systemic changes, some undertaken legislatively and others undertaken by the industry unilaterally or under guidance from the Executive Branch.  This meeting will present an opportunity for industry experts to inform the committee about how these changes have impacted the industry, both positively and negatively.

The following bill(s) will be considered:

*A-4389

McKeon

Requires certain entities authorized to issue health benefits plans to pay annual assessment.

Due to the public health emergency, the State House Annex remains closed to visitors and the public will not be allowed to attend the meeting in person.  The public may view the meeting on the New Jersey Legislature home page, at https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/ .
