Assembly Judiciary Panel to Hold Hearing on Security of Voting Machines Amid Concerns about Hacking
(TRENTON) – Chairman John McKeon will hold a special hearing of the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Thursday to discuss the security of voting machines in light of reports that Russian hacking efforts were wider than previously known.
Among those expected to testify are county clerks and election officials, as well as Princeton University Professor Andrew Appel, whose team demonstrated in a court case on election security that New Jersey’s voting machines could be successfully hacked within a matter of minutes.
The committee will also discuss legislation (A-4619) sponsored by Assembly Democrats Elizabeth Maher Muoio, Andrew Zwicker, Reed Gusciora, Daniel Benson and Jamel Holley that would require new voting machines purchased or leased for use in elections in New Jersey to produce a paper record of each vote cast.
The Judiciary Committee will meet on Thursday, October 26, at 9 a.m. in Committee Room 12 on the fourth floor of the State House Annex in Trenton.
