Assembly Panel Clears Verrelli, Mukherji Bill Expand Access to Meeting Remotely for Banking, Nonprofit Industry
Measure Acknowledges Rise in Meeting Cancellations for Boards Who are Required under the Law to Meet In Person
(TRENTON)- The ability to conduct meetings remotely has allowed many businesses continue to operate under the constraints and restrictions of the pandemic. Legislation sponsored by Assembly members Anthony Verrelli and Raj Mukherji to permit bank stockholders to participate in meetings remotely during a state of emergency declared by the Governor was approved by an Assembly panel Monday.
While nonprofits are currently able to meet remotely, this bill (A-4128) also provides guidance on how to change a meeting noticed for a physical location.
The sponsors issued the following statement on the bill:
“The COVID-19 crisis has led to the cancellation or postponement of meetings. As the crisis continues on, it is especially hard for those who are statutorily required to meet in person. Many organizations have turned to remote meetings to continue to conduct business. During these unprecedented times, it is important to allow flexibility in meetings for certain industries to protect the health of all involved.”
The measure was approve the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
