Assembly, Senate Budget Committees To Hold Public Hearings On FY2020 Budget

The Assembly Budget Committee will hold two public hearings in the State House to receive testimony from residents on the Fiscal Year 2020 State Budget on the following dates:

March 20, 2019                 State House Annex

Anyone wishing to testify may register online at https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/BudgetReg_DB/default.asp  or call the Legislative Budget and Finance Office at (609) 847-3105 to register by phone.   Written testimony can also be submitted; participants are asked to provide 20 copies on the day of the hearing.

The Assembly Budget Committee will receive testimony from individual departments of state government and the presentations of state revenues by the Office of Legislative Services and the New Jersey Treasurer following public hearings.

Senator Paul Sarlo, the chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, announced two public hearings on Governor Phil Murphy’s budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year. The public hearings to start the Legislature’s work on the state spending plan will be held at the New Jersey Institute of Technology on March 21st and at Salem County Community College on March 28th.

 

“This will be the start of the Legislature’s work on a state budget that provides vital services in a fiscally responsible way,” said Senator Sarlo. “It is more important than ever that we find ways to capture savings and reduce costs so that we have the resources to meet the immediate and long-term needs of the people of New Jersey. We want to make effective investments to expand economic opportunities at the same time, we have to hold down costs and be fully aware of the impact on taxpayers.”

  • PUBLIC HEARING – Thursday, March 28, 10:00 a.m. at Salem County Community College, 460 Hollywood Avenue, Carneys Point, NJ 08069.

 

The budget committee’s hearings on individual departments of state government and the presentations of state revenues and economic conditions by the Office of Legislative Services and the New Jersey Treasurer will be scheduled for after the public hearings, Senator Sarlo said.
