Assembly Transportation Committee to Consider Bills Aiming to Keep Students Safe on School Buses

 

(TRENTON) – In light of recently raised concerns about school bus safety after incidents occurring in Chesterfield and Paramus, Chairman Dan Benson and the Assembly Transportation Committee moved expeditiously to review legislation that would strengthen state law and increase protections of New Jersey students riding school buses. The committee will convene 10:00 AM on Tuesday to discuss and vote on three pieces of legislation.

The following bills will be considered:

  • A-1888           (Benson, Vainieri Huttle, Gusciora, Caputo, Zwicker) Requires minimum of one school bus aide for every 15 special needs students on school bus;
  • A-2436           (Benson) Requires certain school district transportation supervisors to complete certain educational program at Rutgers University;
  • A-4110           (Lopez, Benson, Swain, Tully) Requires certain school buses to be equipped with lap and shoulder seat belts;

The Assembly Transportation Committee will meet Tuesday, June 19 at 10:00 AM in Committee Room 16, 4th Floor, State House Annex, Trenton, NJ.
