Assemblyman Peters calls for National Guard to receive Jan. 6 honors

Assemblyman Ryan Peters (R-8).

LUMBERTON – Assemblyman Ryan Peters is calling on Brigadier General Lisa J. Hou and Governor Phil Murphy to honor members of the National Guard for their deployment to Washington DC after the events that took place at the United States Capitol.

“Our National Guardsmen and women were made eligible for awards, including service ribbons, and I’d love to see New Jersey follow through and honor our brave men and women,” Peters said. “To my knowledge, their efforts have not been officially recognized, so I will be in contact with the state to see that it happens.”

Many of the National Guard members that were deployed to Washington DC left from the Mount Holly Armory in Peters’ 8th Legislative District. The district has a strong military presence with Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Peters, a Navy SEAL with multiple combat deployments, wrote a letter to Brigadier General Lisa J. Hou where he expressed the importance of keeping morale high in the military and said he looks forward to attending the event with the General when the National Guard members are recognized.

“Let’s show the nation how much New Jersey supports its military. I look forward to honoring these men and women, one day soon,” Peters said.
