Pleasantville, NJ — The legislative offices of Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo and Assemblyman John Armato teamed up with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the Pleasantville Police Department, JTAC and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals to host a prescription drug disposal event in Pleasantville yesterday, Tuesday, July 31. Overall, the event resulted in around 25 lbs. of expired and unused medications being collected.

“Proper prescription drug disposal can save lives by keeping potentially dangerous drugs out of the wrong hands and it ensures that they are not flushed and contaminate the water supply,” said Assemblyman Mazzeo. This event followed the very successful prescription drug disposal event March 28 at Jeffries Tower, where 68 pounds of medication was collected.

Mallinckrodt, which purchased and donated the drug deactivation pouches as part of the company’s nationwide commitment to address the issue of prescription drug abuse, was in attendance.

“As a company focused on the health and well-being of our patients and communities, Mallinckrodt has long been a strong advocate of addressing the complex issues of opioid misuse and abuse that cause so much harm,” said Mark Trudeau, Mallinckrodt President and Chief Executive Officer. “We share the concerns of people across the nation, and believe that providing patients with a safe, environmentally responsible way to dispose of unused medications is critical in this fight against prescription drug abuse. Mallinckrodt is committed to working with policy makers, community leaders, law enforcement and industry partners to ensure the responsible use of pain medication and prevent unused medications from ending up in the wrong hands.”

Assemblyman Armato said, “Proper disposal of prescription drugs keep potentially dangerous drugs out of the wrong hands and they keep our drinking water clean and safe. I’m proud to team up with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Pleasantville Police Department and Mallinckrodt for this event.”

Earlier this year, Mallinckrodt generously donated 15,000 disposal bags to make this event possible, we were glad they were present for the event to provide support.
