Assemblymen Vince Mazzeo and John Armato Speak with NJ Transit Officials for AC Rail Line Update

(Northfield) Thursday morning Assemblymen Vince Mazzeo, John Armato and staff had a call with New Jersey Transit officials on the status of the Atlantic City rail line. NJ transit members participating in the call were, Justin Davis- Chief of Staff, Paul Wyckoff- Chief of Government and Community Affairs and John Del Colle- Sr. Director of Legislative Relations.

“This call today was important,” said Mazzeo (D-Atlantic). “Through this process there have been a lot of rumors and worries throughout the county. Our office has received a lot of calls asking when the train is going to re-open and we’ve heard a lot of worry that it would not re-open as promised. Our office has made it a point to keep an open line of communication with NJ Transit officials to make sure we are getting the most up to date facts and more importantly to make sure that we are relaying correct information back to our constituents.”

From the call today it is clear that NJ Transit is in the final steps of installing the required PTC (Positive Train Control). There are many procedural steps left, including a Federal inspection. NJ Transit spoke about reaching out to community leaders, including union leaders and casino officials about planning the new operations schedule to better fit the needs of the riders for when the train re-opens.

“While the situation with the train line closing completely should have never happened and while it is disappointing that there is still not a set date for re-opening, I am happy to see that NJ Transit heard the discontent from our constituents, payed attention and has been working diligently to make sure that the line will be reopened towards the first of the year,” said Armato (D-Atlantic).

The Assemblymen would like for anyone experiencing any problems with the current bus replacements to call their office so that they can relay those issues to NJ transit and ensure that they are properly addressed.
