Assemblywoman Carol Murphy Vows to Protect Individuals Living with Pre-Existing Conditions
as Affordable Care Act Faces Legal Challenge in Texas
(Mount Laurel) – Assemblywoman Carol Murphy raised serious concerns about a federal court case in Texas that is attempting to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which could eliminate protections for the millions of Americas living with pre-existing conditions. After hearing oral arguments yesterday, U.S. District Court Judge Reed O’Connor indicated that he would rule quickly as healthcare coverage for millions of Americans hang in the balance. This is of particular concern for this living with pre-existing conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, lung disease, joint disorders, diabetes and cancer.
Assemblywoman Carol Murphy issued the following statement:
“Congressional Republicans attempted to gut critical life-saving healthcare protections for Americans living with pre-existing conditions, and now they have launched a baseless lawsuit that could harm Americans living with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, lung disease, joint disorders cancer, asthma and diabetes. I hope that justice prevails and the healthcare of Americans wins the day, but if overturned we must fight back legislatively to ensure that healthcare and prescription drugs are affordable. This is a moral issue because healthcare is a right and should not be another sad example of income inequality in our country.”
Carol Murphy is the State Assemblywoman for New Jersey’s 7th Legislative District, representing portions Burlington County and she resides in the Rancocas Pointe section of Mount Laurel.
