Assemblywoman Stanfield and Assemblyman Peters urge public to seek help through their office regarding new stimulus

Legislators help hundreds of families receive pandemic benefit cards for food insecurity

LUMBERTON – With a new federal stimulus being rolled out as well as the large vaccine effort, Assemblywoman Jean Stanfield and Assemblyman Ryan Peters are encouraging residents, businesses and public institutions of the 8th Legislative District to reach out for help with navigating the new benefits and programs available to them.

“We’re fortunate enough to be in a position where we have contacts within the state and can help people with the questions and assistance they need,” Stanfield said.

“Throughout the pandemic, my office has assisted thousands of people obtain their unemployment benefits, businesses get much-needed grants and licenses and our public institutions navigate new funding that’s available. Please, if you have any questions, we have dedicated staff that will do their best to get you an answer,” she continued.

Governor Phil Murphy has put forth many executive orders, the legislature has passed new relief programs and the federal government pumped trillions of dollars in various efforts, during the pandemic. With all of the change has come a lot of confusion. The much-needed relief has been missed out on by residents in some instances due to the newness of it all. There have also been countless examples of people not being able to obtain what they are owed because of unforeseen issues within government departments.

“If there’s a solution to a government issue you are having, Jean and I have a team in place that will find it,” Peters said.

“One of the instances that really stood out to me was hundreds of families in one of our special needs schools, Archway Programs, did not receive a large food assistance benefit parents were entitled to. Because Archway had the wherewithal to reach out to our office, we were able to discern what department the benefit cards were in and call them to fix the issue that was holding them up.” he continued.

“Archway is dedicated to advocating on behalf of each individual we serve. We are very thankful to Assemblyman Peters and Assemblywoman Stanfield for their support and assistance resolving this matter for the parents and guardians of our students,” stated George Richards, CEO of Archway Programs.
