Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle Calls for Passage of Reproductive Freedom Act on Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Today marks the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, recognizing and upholding a woman’s right to make decisions for her body and her future.

But, even as Roe stands, the barriers and burdens to accessing safe and affordable reproductive healthcare continue to fall on our most marginalized communities including BIPOC people, immigrants and the LGBTQ community.

With so many barriers already holding women back from making decisions about their futures, recent ideological shifts within our Supreme Court only put access at greater risk. Even with a new and friendly administration in Washington, we cannot get complacent. That is why I am leading the fight for equitable access to reproductive healthcare for all New Jerseyans, regardless of their income or immigration status. We must continue to fight for the passage of the Reproductive Freedom Act, legislation co-sponsored by Senator Weinberg and myself along with other women legislators.

As we recognize today’s anniversary as a turning point for women’s rights, let’s use this opportunity to advocate for a future where every single person who wants to access reproductive healthcare, from contraception to abortion services, can do so without barriers and without shame and stigma. To get that done, we need more strong women’s voices in places of power, not fewer.
