Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Urges Peace & Public Safety On Election Day

Says AC Will Not Tolerate Voter Intimidation

Small Joins Democrats’ Call For Callaway Investigation

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (June 7, 2021)—Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small says that peace, public safety and ensuring all citizens’ right to vote will be the city’s top priorities on primary election day tomorrow (Tuesday, June 8th), saying that voter intimidation, threats of physical harm or violence, and other disruptions to public safety will not be tolerated as Atlantic City heads to the polls.

“In Atlantic City, we are committed to fair, open and transparent elections, and any attempts to intimidate or threaten voters for any reason, or steal their vote under false pretenses, will not be tolerated,” Mayor Small said. “As the behavior of my opponents, Tom Foley and Craig Calloway, has grown increasingly desperate, I want to assure Atlantic City residents that their public safety, and their right to exercise their right to vote, is the top priority of my administration,” Mayor Small said.

Small is seeking re-election against challenger Tom Foley, an avowed Trump supporter who is running as a Democrat in the primary but has touted and defended his support for Donald Trump throughout the primary.

Small is the endorsed candidate of the Atlantic County Democratic Committee. He has also been endorsed by Gov. Phil Murphy and Sen. Cory Booker as well as Democratic and African American leaders and elected officials from across New Jersey.

The Atlantic City mayoral campaign has grown increasing contentious, with Foley and his campaign manager, Craig Callaway, dispatching operatives to confront Small and his supporters while they are campaigning in public and to harass and threaten the mayor and his family members at their homes and places of work.

“This is what you get when you have a Donald Trump candidate, you get corrupt Trump tactics threatening the voters of Atlantic City,” Small said. “As we enter the final day of this election, I promise Atlantic City voters that my first priority is their safety, their right to vote, and the future progress of our great city,” Small said.

Small has repeatedly called on Foley to denounce Trump and Callaway, and repeated that challenge.

“In the final hours of this campaign, I am once again challenging Tom Foley to denounce Callaway and Trump,” Small said. “I do not know how someone who claims he wants to be the mayor of Atlantic City continues to associate himself with two of the worst individuals in Atlantic City history. However, it does tell voters everything you need to know about him,” Small said.

Small has joined Democrats in South Jersey in calling for the Attorney General to investigate Callaway, Foley’s campaign manager, who is under suspicion for tampering with mail-in ballots during the 2020 election and served nearly four years in prison for accepting bribes and orchestrating a blackmail scheme while serving as an Atlantic City councilman.

“I support and join the Atlantic County Democrats in calling for this investigation that could help Atlantic City free itself of the scourge of the criminal Callaway machine. Such an investigation is long overdue,” Mayor Small said. “Atlantic City deserves better. We deserve to be free of the grip of Callaway corruption. Our city is making tremendous progress toward being a premiere family resort destination that will create jobs and opportunities for our hard-working families and our local businesses. People are excited about the future of Atlantic City. We cannot let Foley-Callaway-Trump drag us back down,” Small said.
