Balwierczak & Yampaglia begin third round of door to door canvassing for NA Borough Counci
NORTH ARLINGTON – Democratic candidates for council John Balwierczak and John Yampaglia have completed two waves of intensive door-to-door canvassing and will begin a third round moving forward.
The Democrats are seeking to break the current Republican monopoly of local government by defeating the incumbents, Brian Fitzhenry and Allison Sheedy.
Republicans currently enjoy a 7-0 monopoly and no Democrat has won locally in 8 years.
This year, the local Democrats began their effort to oust the incumbents last summer, gathering over 300 signatures to make their to the primary nomination, the most nominating signatures collected by municipal candidates in all of Bergen County.
The candidates are running as the “North Arlington First” team, and have centered their campaign on the overdevelopment policies of the GOP incumbents along with this year’s tax hike in the hundreds of dollars on average and in some cases over $700.
“Every door we knock on the reaction is the same. Why is Ridge Road being overdeveloped with a plethora of apartment dwellings few endorse? Why is North Arlington becoming an extension of Hudson County under our opponents versus the gateway of Bergen County? That is why we are running under the platform of keeping North Arlington small, safe and suburban,” offered John Balwierczak, a former Republican who left the party over these urbanization practices that have decreased residential parking and increased traffic along Ridge Road.
The Democrats are now available to speak with voters every Saturday from 9:00 AM till 12 noon at the North Arlington Post office located at Ridge Park Drive where residents can register to vote or participate in their community survey.
