New Jersey – Mayor Ras J. Baraka today revealed a transformative healthcare policy platform, “Healthcare Reimagined,” designed to address New Jersey’s most pressing healthcare challenges. Inspired by the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic and rooted in the fundamental belief that healthcare is a human right, Mayor Baraka’s plan tackles systemic inequities, transparency, affordability, accessibility and the factors that impact health outcomes across communities.
“Healthcare is a fundamental human right,” said Mayor Baraka. “And health does not exist in isolation, it intersects with housing, income, and access to essential services. We have to dismantle the entrenched inequities that lead to tragic disparities, like Black women in New Jersey being seven times more likely to die in childbirth than white women. ‘Healthcare Reimagined’ is our commitment to a just healthcare system that protects everyone’s right to a healthy life, regardless of who they are or where they live.”
Mayor Baraka’s “Healthcare Reimagined” plan aims to make healthcare affordable, accessible, and equitable for all New Jerseyans. Key measures include capping costs, enhancing transparency, expanding Medicaid for essential services, and ensuring access to comprehensive reproductive care. With a focus on reducing health disparities and enforcing accountability, this platform strives to build a healthier, fairer New Jersey.
“We have an obligation to build a healthcare system that doesn’t leave families on the brink of financial ruin. ‘Healthcare Reimagined’ is about delivering affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare that serves every community and protects the right to health for all,” concluded Mayor Baraka.
Healthcare Reimagined stands as a bold vision for the future of New Jersey’s healthcare and sets forth a multifaceted approach to ensure that healthcare truly serves the needs of New Jerseyans.
