Bayonne Council Candidate Franco takes on CarePoint Health

PRESS RELEASE

With the recent news regarding Bayonne Medical Center I am reminded of four years ago when I marched in solidarity with HPAE caregivers for a fair contract.

While the mayor and Councilman Carroll want to make Robert Wood Johnson RWJBarnabas out to be the boogie man in all of this, they conveniently overlook how we ended up here; CarePoint health’s greed.

When the mayor and councilman Carroll say we deserve access to affordable healthcare I agree, however, if the care is unaffordable and refuses to accept all insurance in Bayonne than it’s not accessible.

In March 2019 the state discovered the owners of Bayonne Medical created shell companies to hide 157M in profit. Then 4 months later cried poverty and fired 44 people most of which were from Bayonne.

With 20,000 emergency room visits per year there is a clear need for a hospital, maybe not a hospital who’s management puts its business interests before our community.

Peter Franco is running in a non-partisan race for 1st Ward city Council against incumbent Neil Carroll, John Cupo, and Paul Hagdorn. The special election will be held Tuesday November 5th.
