Beach Bill to Require Development of ‘Brewery Trails’ Advances

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator James Beach that would require the Division of Travel and Tourism to advertise and promote tours of breweries in the State was passed by the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee today.

“New Jersey enjoys a rich brewing history dating back to the 1600s. Today we are home to nearly one hundred craft breweries and brew pubs,” said Senator Beach (D-Burlington/Camden). “This will establish breweries as travel destinations, creating jobs and increasing revenue generated by the craft beer industry.”

The bill, S-1909, would require the Division of Travel and Tourism to establish at least three brewery trails, grouping breweries based on proximity to one another or based on the tourism destinations nearby.

The division would develop and maintain an interactive website providing information on licensed breweries in the State. The website would also provide vacation itineraries based on specific brewery trails, identifying lodging, restaurants, and surrounding attractions.

The bill was released from committee today by a vote of 4-0 and advances to the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee for further consideration.
