Senator Jennifer Beck (R-Monmouth) issued the following statement today regarding Women’s Equality Day:

“As a woman who has fought my way in the professional and political world, I am celebrating Women’s Equality Day today by proudly honoring the life and work of Congresswoman Millicent Fenwick,” Beck said. “Then-Assemblywoman Fenwick’s very first piece of legislation in the State Assembly was to outlaw wage discrimination in New Jersey. Since her legislation was signed on June 2nd 1970, New Jersey has been viewed as having one of the most aggressive wage equality laws in the nation.”

“Senator Diane Allen (R-Burlington) and I are building on this tradition with S-3256, which allows for back pay to the first date of discrimination as well as double damages. Additionally I continue to advocate for passage of my legislation, S-2458, which provides a gross income tax exclusion for wage discrimination awards.”

“There is always more work to do, but these bills would continue New Jersey’s role as a leader in ensuring that women are protected in the workplace. I am thankful for all of the women and men who worked over the years to give our state that reputation.”
