Bedminster Democrats Lay Out HOA Plan

We would like to take this opportunity to clear the air on the Bedminster Democratic Candidates position on Home Owners Associations. Our platform does not call for interfering with their day to day operations or seeking to take them over. That is not the town’s role and we certainly do not advocate that position. What we are talking about is accountability and transparency. We would like to partner with the HOAs to encourage them to cooperate with each other on contracting for services. Right now, each HOA has their own set of contracts with service providers for things like trash collection, landscaping, snow removal and other services.

What our campaign is proposing is that instead of this expensive and inefficient way of doing business, that the HOAs of Bedminster work together to craft a series of shared service contracts between them. The Town can serve as a mediator and neutral arbiter in such a process. We know this is not a simple thing, but we believe it would be well worth the work. If we are successful, the HOAs will be able to negotiate from a stronger position and achieve economy of scale savings that can be passed down to their residents who are concerned with the high cost of HOA fees. We aren’t looking to expand the role of government, but rather use government as a tool by which the lives of Bedminster residents can be improved.
