Benson Applauds Move to Make NJTRANSITGRID Project Greener, More Sustainable

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Daniel Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex), chair of the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee, released the following statement on recent developments in the NJTRANSITGRID project, a resiliency initiative aimed to ensure NJTRANSIT (NJT) rail service will be maintained during local and regional power outages:

“NJTRANSIT is in the process of constructing an electrical microgrid capable of supplying reliable power during storms or other events that could impact the power grid, so that riders can be assured NJT will be there to get them where they need to go. I’m pleased the NJT Board of Directors is choosing to maximize renewable energy to make the project they inherited as environmentally-friendly as possible. Prioritizing cleaner, greener energy sources will ensure NJTRANSIT’s infrastructure better aligns with Governor Murphy’s Energy Master Plan, which outlines critical goals New Jersey must meet to combat climate change in our State. The result of this project will deliver a more sustainable and reliable transit system for riders.”
