Benson Statement on Joint Transportation Hearing

The Freeholder fight unites more than it delights.

Benson Statement on Joint Transportation Hearing

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Dan Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex) issued the following statement on the joint Transportation hearing:

“Today’s hearing made clear that incessant delays and increased cancellations are unacceptable to our NJ Transit riders and taxpayers.

“I am hopeful, through the testimony we heard, that NJ Transit fully understood the frustration felt and is working around the clock to fix the problems which have been plaguing operations.

“Transparency, better communications, and quality new hires to fill the over 400 vacancies in NJ Transit are just a few of the actions that must be taken to right the ship and begin to solve current problems.

“The Assembly Transportation Committee is ready to move swiftly to resolve the issues persisting at NJ Transit. This includes expedited legislation to expand hiring to all qualified individuals for engineers, mechanics, conductors and other chronically understaffed positions, and more comprehensive reform legislation later this fall.”
