Benson, Zwicker & Lampitt Respond to NJ Autonomous Vehicle Task Force Report

(TRENTON) – A task force created to study the integration of self-driving vehicles on New Jersey roadways recently delivered its final report to Governor Phil Murphy and Legislature, outlining recommendations to implement laws, rules and regulations to safely accommodate these vehicles.

The New Jersey Autonomous Vehicle Task Force was created under a law (previously AJR-164) sponsored by Assembly Democrats Daniel Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex), Andrew Zwicker (D-Somerset, Mercer, Middlesex, Hunterdon) and Pam Lampitt (D-Camden, Burlington).

Assemblymembers Benson, Zwicker and Lampitt released the following joint statement:

“As major auto companies are exploring the development of semi and fully autonomous cars, we need to prepare for the day when we’ll see only self-driving vehicles on our roadways. States have an important role to play in both encouraging innovation of these vehicles and the benefits they may bring to society, while also addressing any safety concerns and changes that will be inevitable in how we manage our transportation networks. This report will serve as a guide as we work to safely introduce self-driving cars on roadways across New Jersey.”
