Bergen County Clerk John Hogan and Martin Luther King III Speak At New York Giants Camp
Bergen County Clerk John Hogan was invited to speak along with Martin Luther King III about the importance of voter registration and exercising your voting rights.
The session was sponsored by RISE (Rise to vote) www.risetowin.org The Ross Initiative Sports for Equality (RISE) is an unprecedented alliance of professional sports leagues, organizations, athletes, educators, media networks and sports professionals using sports to bring people together to promote understanding, respect and equality. Through public awareness campaigns and educational programming, RISE aims to improve relations.
Mr. King and Clerk Hogan discussed the importance of registering to vote. King reflected on this father’s messages as well as Rep. John Lewis (GA) who is a prominent civil rights leader. King discussed how John Lewis helped organize a march for voting rights from Selma to Montgomery. The day is remembered in history as “Bloody Sunday.” Mr. Hogan talked about how his father, who was mayor of Northvale, NJ influenced him as a young man which motivated him to register to vote.
New York Giants players, coaches and staff attended the session where over 20 were registered to vote.
