Bergen County & Passaic County Approved for FEMA Major Disaster Declaration from Hurricane Ida Federal Relief for Families

Bergen, Passaic Residents and Businesses Can Register for Individual Direct Financial Assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov

State Launches Additional Data Collection Portal at www.nj.gov/ida for Counties Where FEMA is Still Evaluating Financial Assistance

NORTH JERSEY — Today, both Bergen County and Passaic County — in New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District — were included in FEMA’s Major Disaster Declaration. The declaration will allow individuals in the approved counties to register at www.disasterassistance.gov for direct federal assistance for Ida-related recovery, which may include home repairs, temporary housing, low-cost loans, and other programs to help recover from the effects of the tropical storm.

Separately, New Jersey has also launched a portal to gather data from impacted individuals outside of the counties that FEMA has declared a major disaster area. FEMA will continue to evaluate damage in other counties and the State’s portal will ensure that all Ida damages across all NJ counties are evaluated for potential FEMA assistance. The State’s portal will record basic information including name, location, damages and cost, and need from impacted residents and businesses. It is accessible at nj.gov/ida and damagenj-njoem.hub.arcgis.com.

“Our hearts go out to every single Jersey resident and local business affected by Hurricane Ida, especially those families who lost loved ones. With FEMA’s approval of a Major Disaster Declaration, residents and business owners in Passaic and Bergen Counties can now begin the federal disaster assistance application process, which will help them access critical resources and emergency financial aid as they work to recover,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) today. “I’m urging residents outside of the FEMA-approved counties to register their Ida damage through the State of New Jersey’s data collection portal, as FEMA continues to evaluate issues throughout the state.”

The six New Jersey counties included in FEMA’s Major Disaster Declaration thus far are: Bergen, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Passaic, and Somerset Counties.
