Bergen County Recognizes Israeli Independence Day

(Hackensack) – This afternoon, the County of Bergen held a ceremony to raise the Israeli flag in honor of Yom Ha’zikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) and Yom Ha’atzmaot (Israeli Independence Day). As is common in Jewish tradition, these days of mourning and celebration are observed closely together. Yom Ha’zikaron, recognized yesterday, honors the brave fighters who died fighting for the establishment and preservation of the state of Israel. Today, Yom Ha’atzmaot celebrates the freedom their sacrifice made possible by formally establishing the Jewish state of Israel.
