Bergenfield Will Open COVID-19 Testing Center on Washington Avenue for Residents Beginning January 4

BERGENFIELD, N.J. — The Borough of Bergenfield will open a COVID-19 testing site for all residents beginning Monday, January 4th. The site, located at 1 S. Washington Avenue inside the former Payless Shoes store, will be opened by appointment only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Use of the storefront is being donated by the Winifred and George Pitkin Foundation, which owns the property.

“With the holiday season coming to close and as we prepare to enter the winter months, it is critical that we provide Bergenfield residents with easy access to COVID-19 testings,” said Mayor Arvin Amatorio. “Increasing our testing options within the Borough allows us to stay ahead of the game and keep all of our residents safe and healthy.”

The testing will be overseen by the Borough in collaboration with the Board of Health with testing provided by Dr. Wesley Thek and his staff from AM/PM Walk In Urgent Care Center. Additionally, the Borough is currently working with the Bergenfield Board of Education to provide designated testing options to both Borough and school employees and their families. Uninsured residents will not incur any out of pocket expenses.

“Opening a community testing center in Bergenfield is crucial at this time as we see a spike in positive COVID-19 cases,” said Dr. Jojy Cheriyan, President of the Board of Health. “Increasing testing options not only enhances the Board of Health’s contact tracing and isolation efforts, it also helps us prevent a larger spread of infection.
