MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – Bhavishya Chittala, of Edison, has been elected to serve as the Class of 2024 student representative to the Middlesex College Board of Trustees for academic year 2024-2025.

Each year, members of the Middlesex College community recommend and vote on a graduating student to serve a one-year term to the Board of Trustees for the upcoming academic year. The Graduating Student representative to the Middlesex College Board of Trustees is expected to participate in one Board meeting and one Board Committee meeting per month and attend several College functions during the year.

“Bhavishya Chittala brings to the Board a perspective, one that is rooted in her lived experience as a Middlesex College student, that is critical to the mission of the Board. I am very much looking forward to working alongside Bhavishya in her new role to enhance and improve our services for our students,” said President Mark McCormick.

“My goal is to give voice to what students are doing and experiencing and making sure they are seen,” said Chittala about her responsibilities as a member of the Middlesex College Board of Trustees.

Chittala graduated in May with an Associate of Science in Business Administration and will pursue a bachelor of science in finance at Rutgers Business School – New Brunswick this fall.

“I really want to keep going with my education. For sure I am getting my master’s and maybe even a Ph.D. A lot of my professors at Middlesex have provided guidance when it comes to getting a doctorate. It’s always been my passion to teach and that is my end goal. But I think I will get a corporate job and gain industry experience before going into teaching.”

For now, Chittala is using the summer to study for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1 exam.

Chittala is looking forward to serving as a trustee for academic year 2024-2025 and says that she is well prepared for this leadership role thanks to her participation in student clubs.

“I was basically a social hermit when I started Middlesex. But everything changed after I started joining clubs and taking up leadership positions. As president of the Business Club, I led the team to a win at the New Jersey County College Case Competition hosted by Rutgers Business School – Newark,” she noted as one of the many highlights of her Middlesex College experience. “It was at Middlesex that I found that leadership suited me very well and found a nice group of friends at the same time.”

The Middlesex College Board of Trustees governs the College and is responsible for setting policy and strategic direction for the College, appointing and evaluating the President, and providing fiscal oversight for the institution.
