Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus Encouraged by Alexander-Murray CBO Score
Washington – In response to the estimate last week by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) that the Alexander-Murray Bipartisan Health Care Stabilization Act of 2017 “would reduce the deficit by $3.8 billion over the 2018–2027 period without substantially changing the number of people with health insurance coverage, on net,” the Problem Solvers Caucus released the following statement:
“Since coming to an agreement on a set of health care principles in July, the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus has been working to ensure that Congress takes action to lower premiums and stabilize the health insurance market for American families and businesses. The Problem Solvers Caucus is encouraged by the CBO and JCT findings that the bipartisan health care proposal by Senators Alexander and Murray would reduce the federal deficit, while not substantially changing the number of people currently insured. This is exactly the kind of bipartisan collaboration we need from Members of Congress, because we continue to believe that the American people will benefit from Democrats and Republicans working together to find solutions that actually work. The Problem Solvers Caucus is working on fiscally responsible, bipartisan legislation that will stabilize the individual marketplace, reduce premiums and costs, and increase choice and state flexibility, in order to improve health care for all Americans.”
