Bloomfield Township Receives $3.2 Million Reimbursement for Lion Gate Park Project

Bloomfield, NJ – Bloomfield Township is excited to announce that it has received 80%, or  $3.2 million, in grant reimbursement for the costs for the Lion Gate Park project. The township initially fronted the expenses to develop this beautiful community resource and is now receiving funding to cover those costs through the awarded grant. The remaining 20% of the grant, $800 thousand will be received by the Township upon final close of the project.

“Lion Gate Park is more than just a recreational space; it embodies our commitment to environmental sustainability, community wellness, and providing accessible outdoor activities for all our residents,” said Mayor Ted Gamble. “We are thrilled to receive this large portion of the grant, which will reimburse the township for the upfront costs of bringing this project to life. We also look forward to closing out this project, receiving the remaining funds and in doing so, opening the door to new opportunities for the township to pursue additional Green Acres funding for future initiatives.”

The Lion Gate Park project incorporated three major components: Active Recreational Facilities, a Freshwater Wetlands Complex, and a Field House to support park operations.

  1. Active Recreational Facilities
A multi-use turf field for team sports, children’s play areas, fitness stations, all-weather paths, picnic spots, and a state-of-the-art drinking fountain. Fully ADA-accessible with 59 on-site parking spaces and additional parking nearby.
  2. Freshwater Wetlands Complex
A 4.2-acre wetland designed for stormwater management, habitat creation, and environmental education, featuring new ponds, trails, and outdoor learning spaces.
  3. Field House to Support Park Operations
A 950-square-foot facility with equipment storage, ADA-compliant restrooms, and a concessions area to serve park visitors.

Bloomfield Township is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents by fostering a safe, inclusive, and vibrant community. The Lion Gate Park project is the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at promoting recreational activities, environmental sustainability, and community engagement.

The Lion Gate Park project is a testament to Bloomfield Township’s commitment to community development, environmental sustainability, and recreation. The newly secured reimbursement will ensure that the township can continue to pursue additional grants and funding for promoting green, open space and fun outdoor experiences for our residents without overburdening the taxpayer.
