Former Mets Pitcher Bobby Jones to Help Lead Expansion of The New Jersey Jackals at Newly-Restored Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ

Paterson, NJ – October 27, 2022 – The New Jersey Jackals, a member team of the Frontier League, a Professional Baseball League of 16 teams and Partner League of Major League Baseball (MLB), today announced that former-left handed pitcher of the New York Mets, Robert “Bobby” Jones will be joining its front office leadership team as Vice President & Chief Business Officer.

“Bobby Jones is an ‘inside baseball’ guy and intimately knows all facets of the game from recruitment, player development and game planning to management, operations and more,” said Mike Dorso, (insert title) of The New Jersey Jackals. “Needless to say, we’re pleased to have Bobby’s leadership, insight and incredible baseball acumen to help us continue to expand the Jackals brand, add more community involvement and increase the fan experience.”

The Rutherford native was most recently the manager for the Sussex County Miners for the past eight years. In his new role with the Jackals, Jones will be overseeing and directly involved in baseball operations, community relationships, strategic partnerships, and ongoing brand/fan building.  Jones was also instrumental in early talks to consider moving the Jackals to Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ.

“I’m a natural born competitor. I like to win at whatever I’m doing and put everything I have into it. That’s what athletes do and that’s what business professionals do,” said Bobby Jones, VP & CBO, New Jersey Jackals. “With the return to Hinchliffe Stadium, we have a unique opportunity to bring this game I love to even more baseball fans throughout Northern NJ and beyond. I’m excited about my new role and look forward to the next chapter in my professional baseball career.”

Jones’ baseball career began when he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 44th round as a draft-and-follow. He signed prior to the 1992 draft and was assigned to Helena in the Pioneer League where he went 5–4. He played in 99 major-league games across four teams (Rockies, Mets, Padres, Red Sox) throughout his baseball career and posted a 5.77 ERA over 324 2/3 innings.  Jones accomplished many milestones such as winning the Major League Pennant in 2000 as well as winning two division titles. After his time playing for MLB’s Boston Red Sox in 2004, he moved on to the Sussex County Miners where he worked as a manager.

The left-handed pitcher has deep-rooted history in baseball as his grandfather played in the Negro Leagues and inspired him to pick up the popular sport. “I learned this game from my grandfather who played in the Pittsburgh Crawfords and The Homestead Grays,” said Bobby Jones. “I found my first love for the game because of my grandfather. He gave me the blueprint on how to be a professional baseball player; especially for a guy who wasn’t allowed to play in the professional leagues, it was powerful learning from him.”

Jones also spent a lot of time working within the community to operate his own youth program called “Champions Way Sports Academy” created in 2017. “Our academy brought more awareness to the minors and gave back to the community,” said Jones. “The youth program exposes the kids to different parts of baseball and also helps them get into college.”
