Borough of Dunellen Amends Industrial Zone to Permit Film Studios & Production Facilities

DUNELLEN, NJ – April 15, 2022 – The Borough of Dunellen has amended its zoning ordinance to permit film studios and production facilities within the industrial zone. This amendment was heard and approved at the Council meeting on April 4th, 2022. The goal of the amendment is to attract new businesses to Dunellen. DMR Architects the Borough’s Municipal Planner amended the zoning ordinance.

Mayor Cilento said “Dunellen is looking to attract a diverse portfolio of businesses to continue and grow its economic development. Permitting our industrial zones to allow film and studio spaces, opens a door to an industry that is finding a rebirth in the Garden State. Dunellen’s proximity and accessibility to the city makes it a great destination for the entertainment industry. ”

Gabe Bailer, the planner for the Borough and an employee of DMR Architects said: “We want to make the film industry aware of Dunellen as a convenient and unique film location and so we are excited that the industrial zone was amended to attract these types of businesses.”

Since Governor Murphy signed the New Jersey Film & Digital Media Tax Credit program, the filming and media production industry within New Jersey has grown exponentially.

David Schoner, Associate Director from the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission said: “The need for film studios and production facilities within New Jersey will become more apparent with the continued growth we are seeing of this industry. We applaud Dunellen for amending their zoning ordinance to permit these types of industries within the Borough.”
