Bramnick calls out Murphy on affordable housing nightmare

TRENTON, N.J. – Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick has heard from mayors and New Jerseyans across the state about their struggle with court-mandated affordable housing obligations.  He is calling for Gov. Phil Murphy to take the issue seriously.

“The governor needs to do something about the affordable housing nightmare immediately,” said Bramnick (R-Union). “The courts should not be deciding the outcomes of this issue.  This system has cost taxpayers millions without any consideration of the impact on schools, infrastructure or municipal services.  The governor should help us pass the Republican affordable housing bill package today. Democrat and Republican mayors agree that action should be taken now.”

Bramnick fielded questions with concerned residents on the issue at a town hall Monday night in Basking Ridge, which was streamed live on Facebook.

The package would relieve municipalities of their affordable housing burden by creating a state obligation based on a state calculation to enforce housing based on reasonable factors and standards.  It also protects municipalities from costly lawsuits.
