Bramnick calls on Murphy to withdraw tax hikes

and work to freeze property taxes

WESTFIELD, N.J. – Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick called on Gov. Phil Murphy to withdraw his plan to raise billions of taxes and alternatively support a Bramnick bill that follows the Florida homestead approach, virtually freezing property taxes until a new buyer purchases the property.

“Despite new reports that we continue to have the highest property taxes in the country, Governor Murphy still pushes billions of new taxes,” said Bramnick (R-Union).  “More taxes is insanity in New Jersey.  If we don’t stop raising taxes and start working toward lowering them, we will be saying goodbye to more friends and family.”

Under Bramnick’s proposed amendment (ACR167), annual property tax assessments are capped at a very low amount until the sale of the home.  Additionally, it provides a property tax exemption up to $50,000 of a home’s assessed value.
