Brendan Gill Unanimously Re-Elected Chair of Montclair Democratic Committee
Local Democratic Party Also Elects Officers, Ward & District Leaders
MONTCLAIR, NJ (June 22, 2021)— The Montclair Democratic County Committee, the official local organization of the Democratic Party in Montclair, has re-elected Montclair resident Brendan Gill to serve as its chair. Gill, who received a unanimous vote at the MDCC reorganization meeting, has served as chair for the past 15 years, leading the Montclair Democrats to become an important partner to Democratic campaigns, both statewide and nationally.
“You will not find a more hard-working, dedicated or effective group of activists than you’ll find in the Montclair Dems, and I could not be prouder of this organization and what we have accomplished to elect Democratic candidates and advance progressive causes,” Brendan Gill said. “I am honored and grateful to have their continued support as we continue to build and grow. It is a great privilege to lead this organization. I also want to congratulate all of our officers, district and ward leaders,” Gill said.
The MDCC also unanimously re-elected long-serving Vice Chair Tanya Poteat and Treasurer Christine Russo. Elsie Barrick, reporting secretary, and Cary Chevat, corresponding secretary, were re-elected to new three-year terms. The committee also elected two chairs representing Montclair’s four wards: Ward One: Shivaun Gaines and Nichole Johnson; Ward 2: Mara Novak and Jerry Vorbach; Ward 3: Phil Hirschhorn and Kim Burns; Ward 4: Gay Overbey-Cole and Antonio Gary
About The Montclair Dems
The Montclair Democratic County Committee is the municipal level organization of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, which is the state-level organization of the Democratic National Committee. The MDCC is comprised of 70 elected district leaders, which represent Montclair’s 35 election districts in two-person teams. The “Montclair Dems” is a volunteer activist organization associated with the MDCC but open to anyone interested in volunteering for Democratic candidates and progressive causes. In 2020, the Montclair Dems mobilized more than 3,000 volunteers to help Democratic races across the country, hosting more than 600 phone banks and sending 75,000 post cards to reach more than two million like-minded voters in critical swing states, as well as in New Jersey. In 2021, the Montclair Dems will be marshalling its resources to ensure the re-election of New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Lt. Gov. Shelia Oliver, as well as State Sen. Nia Gill, Assemblyman Tom Giblin, Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake and Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura. The Montclair Dems are also committed to fighting voter suppression efforts being launched by Republican legislators and officials across the United States.
