BREWERS GUILD OF NJ APPLAUDS NJ ASSEMBLY FOR PASSING LEGISLATION

TO FREE NJ BREWERIES FROM HARMFUL RESTRICTIONS

Passing Unanimously in Both Houses, Bill Heads to the Governor’s Desk for Murphy’s Signature

(TRENTON) — The Brewers Guild of NJ today applauded the New Jersey General Assembly for unanimously passing A-4630, legislation that would repeal the harmful license restrictions imposed on Garden State craft breweries. The bill now heads to Governor Murphy’s desk for his signature.

“With this bill passed unanimously by both houses of the Legislature, we are tremendously grateful to lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for demonstrating their overwhelming support for New Jersey craft breweries,” said Eric Orlando, Executive Director of the Brewers Guild of New Jersey. “This long-awaited legislation removes the onerous restrictions suffocating the craft beer industry since last July. It’s a win for the economy, consumers, and our communities.”

The legislation would allow breweries to fully operate their businesses and provide a first-class craft beer experience for New Jersey consumers by removing the harmful licensing conditions that were imposed in 2022.  These restrictions ranged from limiting the number of events the breweries can hold, to banning them from providing food options or even a simple cup of coffee. Orlando noted that it’s critical the bill be signed into law before licensing regulations are automatically reinstated on July 1.

“Together with the bill sponsors, we answered the Governor’s call for a legislative fix and delivered him a bill that has received broad legislative and public support, as well as consensus among stakeholders in the state’s alcohol manufacturing, sales and distribution industries,” Orlando continued. “We ask Governor Murphy to sign this bill ASAP to finally put these issues to rest so that the industry can concentrate on what it does best: make and sell great locally-sourced NJ beer!”
