Bucco Bill Allowing Nonprofits to Hold Remote Board Meetings Becomes Law

Senator Anthony M. Bucco’s legislation allowing nonprofit corporations to hold remote board meetings was signed today by the Governor.

“The new law makes it easier for organizations to conduct meetings, discuss priorities and take action when they don’t have to convene face to face,” said Bucco (R-25). “During the pandemic, remote meetings worked well and this measure extends that option at the discretion and authority of nonprofit boards.”

Nonprofits have been able to hold remote meetings during the pandemic. Previously, the virtual alternative was only applicable during a state of emergency declared by the Governor. Bucco’s measure, A-5549/S-4112, eliminates the emergency requirement.

“There’s no need to restrict nonprofits from benefiting from technology that can make it more convenient to bring members together and increase productivity,” Bucco noted. “They should be able to utilize the same advances that businesses have adopted.”
