Bucco, Polistina Introduce Bill to Stop Phantom Candidates, Strengthen Campaign Finance Laws

May 3, 2024

In light of ELEC’s 2023 Annual Report, the Senate Republican Office would like to remind members of the media that Senate Republican Leader Anthony Bucco (R-25) and Senator Vince Polistina (R-02) introduced a bill in April that would stop illegitimate ‘phantom candidates’ from disrupting New Jersey elections and strengthen campaign finance reporting to improve election transparency for all New Jerseyans.

In ELEC’s 2023 Annual Report, they recommend that the Legislature require independent expenditure groups to engage in 72/24 hour reporting of significant donations in the final days leading up to an election, as proposed in S3079, introduced by Sens. Bucco and Polistina.
