Burlington County Appoints Law Firm to Review 2024 Election

MOUNT HOLLY – Honoring their commitment to secure, safe and accessible elections, the Burlington County Commissioners have appointed Connell Foley LLP as independent special counsel to review the 2024 General Election and report back with findings and recommendations for improvements.

The review is in response to unacceptable lines and wait times reported at many polling locations in Burlington County during the November General Election.

“Burlington county residents deserve accountability and appropriate action to ensure the 2024 election failures are not repeated, and our Board is committed to making sure that occurs,” said Burington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. “Appointing Connell Foley to conduct this review will provide our board and residents with an impartial assessment of what went wrong and actionable recommendations on improvements.”

Connell Foley will complete their review and deliver a report with findings and recommendations to the Commissioners. The firm’s review will look at all aspects of the 2024 election, including the deployment of new voting machines, the locations and makeup of voting districts, and poll worker training and management.

Headquartered in Roseland, Connell Foley is one of the largest and most respected law firms in New Jersey. Among its past and current attorneys are former New Jersey Governor and Chief Justice Richard Hughes; former U.S. District Court Chief Judge John W. Bissell, former Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and former Essex County Superior Court Judge Eugene J. Codey Jr.

Appointing independent counsel to conduct the review ensures impartial findings and recommendations in a timely manner.

In November, the Commissioner Board had called upon the Superintendent of Elections and the Board of Elections to submit a report of findings regarding the General Election. While both offices have gathered information, neither has the expertise to complete the review process.

“We have decided that it is in the best interest of all parties that the review be performed by an independent third-party,” Hopson said. “We expect the Burlington County Superintendent of Elections and Burlington County Election Board will cooperate fully and we are confident that Connell Foley will deliver a thorough report that will allow us to make informed decisions to address the November election problems.”
