BUS ASSOCIATION OF NJ MOURNS THE DEATH OF SEAN HUGHES, PRESIDENT
The Bus Association of New Jersey mourns the passing of its President, Sean Hughes, who died on Friday, February 18th at 44 years old.
An experienced public and government relations professional, Sean also served as Vice President, Government Affairs for Coach USA. Sean worked tirelessly and effectively to successfully advocate for Coach USA and for the bus industry as a whole at the federal level, in states around the country and here in New Jersey where he led the BANJ. His efforts as an advocate and a leader were critical to helping the private bus industry navigate the extraordinary challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2021 Sean was named a “Top Lobbyist” by the National Institute for Lobbying and Ethics. He exemplified the criteria used for that award, whose winners must be innovative and highly regarded by their colleagues, demonstrate legislative accomplishments, adhere to the highest ethical standards and give back to their community. Sean’s generous nature and commitment to hard work were remarkable, and led him to have a lasting impact in both his professional and personal endeavors.
Sean was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and past president of the NJ State Board of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Among his many community activities at those organizations and elsewhere, Sean raised funds for families experiencing food insecurity and served as media director for the annual Army Tank Pull Competition to aid veterans.
