Business Groups Submit NJ Recovery Framework to Policymakers
The New Jersey Business Coalition, a collection of 80 business and nonprofit groups, has submitted a letter to Gov. Phil Murphy and the Legislature with multipronged recommendations to reopen the state.
The framework includes both general and detailed, sector-specific guidance from the coalition at large.
The goal of this document is to help inform a gradual reopening process as the governor continues to contemplate the appropriate time to do so.
“This is a dynamic document that will be updated as we go forward,” said NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka.
“We have essentially synthesized what we are all collectively seeing and hearing from our memberships, with a priority on a safe and responsible reopening that will put the health and safety of employees, customers, vendors, at the forefront.
“The good news is that a large majority of our respective members say they can reopen in this manner and have been working on best practice documents to lay out those plans, which are incorporated into the framework.”
The areas of recommendations are broken down into determining the timing and phasing of reopening; determining business needs and best practices; most effective use of federal funding; and working with county and municipal governments – all to help businesses restart.
“This document begins to gather needed information that has been discussed among the business community and the Governor’s office and the Legislature,” Siekerka said.
“We offer this information as a starting point for the Governor’s commission and soon-to-be-announced advisory council.”
