Caesars Entertainment and MGM Workers Approve Historic Contract Extension Despite COVID-19 Pandemic
ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY: Workers at 5 Caesars Entertainment properties across the region
and Borgata in Atlantic City overwhelmingly approved a historic contract extension. The contract
extension covers 7,200 workers at Bally’s, Caesars, Tropicana, Harrah’s AC, Tropicana, and Borgata
in Atlantic City, as well as Harrah’s Philadelphia in Chester, Pennsylvania.
“This has been an extremely challenging year for hospitality workers across South Jersey and
Pennsylvania. We are extremely pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with Caesars and
MGM that fully funds healthcare, provides for raises for all employees and further ensures job
security. This creates stability for our members across the region who have suffered the economic
impacts of the pandemic,” said Donna DeCaprio, Financial Secretary Treasurer of Unite Here Local
54.
“I haven’t worked since June. Thankfully our Union health fund covered our benefits during the first
few months, but the stress caused by not knowing if I would have health coverage for myself or my
kids has been a huge burden on top of everything else. It wasn’t easy but we stuck together and won
health coverage that should protect us until people can get the vaccine,” said Mayra Gonzalez a
Buffet Server at Borgata in Atlantic City.
“My co-workers and I have suffered a lot this year. COVID has hit us really hard. With everything
happening in our communities, to win guaranteed raises means I’ve got some security and stability
until we get back on our feet,” said Joe Baldwin and EVS attendant at in Atlantic City.
“We’ve been hit hard by the closures and effects of COVID-19. Winning health coverage for my family
is a giant relief,” said Rob Pate a cook at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
The agreements include guaranteed health coverage, raises, and important other protections for
workers, many of whom have either not been able to work or who have seen significant reductions in
their hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
