Candidate Forum for 16^th Legislative District canceled

Raritan Valley Community College Student Government, LWV Somerset & Hunterdon Counties and the LWV The Greater Princeton Area have canceled the Candidate Forum for Senate and Assembly candidates in the 16^th Legislative District election.  The forum was scheduled for September 27 at Raritan Valley Community College Event Center.  Candidates Richard Byrne, Andrew Zwicker, Roy Freiman and Mitchelle Drulis accepted the invitation to participate in the forum.  Candidates Michael Pappas, Ross Traphagen and Grace Zhang declined the invitation.

“Candidate Forums are a key element of the League’s mission to promote an informed and engaged electorate. They are opportunities for voters to learn about who will be on their ballots and hear issues discussed that matter to them.  When a candidate decides not to participate it is a lost opportunity for all voters” said Carol Harvey, President of the League of Women Voters of Somerset and Hunterdon Counties.

The League of Women Voters takes no position on candidates for public office or on political parties.  The League works to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
