CAPE DEMS JOINS COUNTIES IN POSTPONING COUNTY COMMITTEE ELECTIONS

Cape May County Democratic Chairman Brendan Sciarra today announced that the county will be postponing the scheduled June county committee elections until 2021. Sciarra’s announcement coincides with the decision of a growing number of other counties throughout the state.

“The face-to-face interaction of candidates and voters in holding a county election for the nearly 250 committee seats would jeopardize public health and safety as well as circumvent national, state and local efforts in combating the coronavirus”, Sciarra said.

After reviewing the New Jersey Democratic State Committee’s recommendation for the change, the Cape May County Regular Democratic Executive Committee held an emergency telephone conference call on Saturday afternoon and unanimously agreed to postpone the elections.

“In this extraordinary world-wide crisis, our political responsibilities mandate that we take a proactive approach in helping to eradicate this deadly pandemic. Postponing this year’s county committee elections is clearly the right thing to do,” Sciarra concluded.
