Cape May County: Governor Murphy’s Executive Order Closes Recreational Campgrounds during COVID-19 Response

Cape May County previously issued a press release regarding a recommendation made by the Cape May County Health Department for campgrounds in the County to delay opening. The Cape May County Health Department has received clarification from an Executive Order Governor Phil Murphy made after the letters went out to campgrounds and all recreational or vacationing activities at campgrounds must cease until further notice.

Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 107 on March 20, 2020 applies to closing all non-essential businesses including campgrounds. Seasonal and daily campers are not essential during this crisis and should remain at their “primary residence”.

At this time, campground employees may continue to come to work.  However, campgrounds should only be operating with limited staff and strictly adhering to the CDC guidelines.

Until Governor Murphy’s orders are lifted or changed, private campgrounds are closed for all vacationing and/or recreational activities.

Please note that Governor Murphy also signed Executive Order No. 108, which invalidates any county or municipal restriction that in any way will or might conflict with any of the provisions of Executive Order No. 107.
