CARNEY UNANIMOUSLY ELECTED DIRECTOR

SUSSEX BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

-Says Commissioner Work Will Preclude Him From Assembly Run-

Sussex County Commissioner Chris Carney was selected by his fellow Sussex County Commissioners to be the Board Director for the 2023 calendar year, in a unanimous vote at the annual reorganization meeting earlier this month, after serving as Deputy Director in 2022.

“I am honored to lead the Commissioner Board this year,” said Carney. “We have many critical issues that need attention and I look forward to working collaboratively with my Board colleagues to ensure Sussex County residents continue to receive the quality services they deserve while maintaining affordability.”

Commissioner Carney cited the County Budget and tax stability; renegotiating contracts with county CWA workers; and the disbursement of federal funding under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) as the most pressing issues currently before the Commissioner Board.

“As these matters greatly impact county residents, they require my complete attention, especially as I step into the role of Board Director this year,” said Carney. “As such, I will not be able to commit the time to simultaneously make a serious run for an open Assembly seat in Legislative District 24.”

“I have been giving the thought of running for Assembly very serious consideration and I am sincerely grateful to those who expressed support, but I feel it is better and more influential to focus my attention on County business at this time,” added Carney.

Commissioner Carney pledged to continue to work closely with Senator Oroho, Assemblyman Space, Assemblyman Wirths and the District 24 Legislative Office on matters of mutual interest and importance.

“I am excited about the year ahead and what we can accomplish together,” Carney noted. “As always, I welcome the input of county residents and employees and truly value their feedback and remain committed to working hard and delivering results.”
