As a candidate for Congress in NJs 2nd District, I’m often asked by local citizens what I would do to improve Atlantic City. I believe the best way to improve AC is to start with AC’s local government. The city cannot improve under bad leadership.
The current mayor has been charged with terroristic threats, aggravated assault and disorderly persons simple assault. Authorities allege the mayor physically and emotionally abused a teenage daughter during the months of December and January. While it’s true he’s innocent until proven guilty, he longer has the respect of the people he governs.
Abusing his daughter is not the only unacceptable behavior of which Mayor Small is accused. Greg Woods, owner of the Fish Heads food truck – which served seafood entrees in Atlantic City for 25 years – accused the mayor of forcing him from Atlantic City’s Gardner’s Basin area in 2022 because of a vendetta. Mr. Woods alleges the eviction was done maliciously, over a personal matter with Mayor Small. Per Woods, Marty Small repeatedly said to him, “Why would I support you when you hired a child who is suing me?” The child in question is involved in a case against a former Atlantic City School teacher now serving prison time for producing child pornography. Such vindictive behavior by a Mayor is unacceptable!
I call on Marty Small to step down. While he sorts out his “family issues” and other issues in the court of law, someone else should be running the city. Integrity matters . . .
We must demand elected officials who model the highest possible integrity. Without integrity – immoral, authoritarian leaders like Trump and Van Drew can say – “See, the Democrats are just like us”.
Let’s not accept bad behavior from any elected officials. Let’s push the bad ones out and usher the good ones in!
